This vehicle was developed using the hull of the Valentine armoured tank, to equip the motorized units of the English Army with an artillery self-propeller for the fire support of the armoured troops. The Bishop was equipped with a 25 Pounds (88mm) howitzer, obtained from the standard field cannon of the divisional artillery. The Bishop was quickly replaced with the American M7 Priest self-propeller due to the excessive dimensions of the tower made it unstable.
