The A4 Skyhawk was designed for aircraft carrier operations with the US Navy and US Marine Corps as a small attack aircraft with high loading capacity in the 1950s. Its high performance is highly evaluated not only in the US Navy but also in many countries. The A-4 Sky Hawk was operated by the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) as the main force from the 1970s to the 2000s. Since the inauguration of the RNZAF in 1939, various roundels have been used in accordance with the RAF. In 1957, the roundel was modified by the Silver Fern, endemic to New Zealand, within the inner red circle. In 1970, the roundel was changed to a design using the New Zealand national bird Kiwi until now.
