 | Manufactured by Panavia, the Tornado is the culmination of joint development by the UK, Germany and Italy. It is a sophisticated aircraft and one of the most capable interdiction and attack aircraft in the world today. The British Gr.4 version is an upgraded Tornado that rectifies some of the weaknesses of the original aircraft. Modifications of 142 Gr.1 Tornados to Gr.4 standard were commenced in 1996 and completed in 2003. Improvements included FLIR (Forward-Looking Infrared), wide-angle HUD (Heads-Up Display), GPS receiver, and new avionics and weapon systems. The Gr.4 was now able to carry the latest Storm Shadow and Brimstone missiles, as well as the RAPTOR reconnaissance pod.
Dragon has put together a set of two finely detailed Tornado Gr.4 aircraft in a single kit. These aircraft have been modified to reflect the relevant upgrades given to the Gr.4, and are extremely accurate replicas of the original. Standard accessories like 1500-liter drop tanks, HARM missiles and AIM-9L Sidewinders are all present. Modelers will be pleased, however, that this set also includes new Storm Shadow missile! The aircraft come with a sophisticated and complete set of Cartograf decals, which feature special RAF markings celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Tornado. Dragon has given the Tornado Gr.4 a complete makeover, and this pair of RAF aircraft is ready for action! Tally ho, chaps! |
