The four Afrika Korps figures are vividly posed, each dressed in typical DAK infantry uniforms and equipment. Two of the figures constitute a machine gun team with an MG34, while the remaining two soldiers wield a Kar98K rifle and pistol respectively. Of special note, the machine gun team members have sun-bleached helmet covers. This set is ideal for modelers wishing to create an action-packed diorama, and it will be an invaluable addition to the inventory of figures available for the North African theater. Indeed, this figure set makes the perfect accompaniment to Dragon’s recent Panzer II Ausf. F kit, a tank that saw action in this theater.
El Alamein could rightly take the credit for being the most famous battle of the North African campaign in WWII. In actual fact, there were two distinct battles in this end of the railway location in Egypt, the first from 1-27 July 1942, and the second from 23 October – 4 November of the same year. The second battle saw Generals Montgomery and Rommel facing each other, and many historians consider it a major turning point in WWII. It led Winston Churchill to comment: “The Germans have received back again that measure of fire and steel which they have so often meted out to others.” The second battle involved 220,000 Allied soldiers and 1100 Allied tanks pitted against 116,000 German soldiers and 559 German tanks.
