| In the second Sino-Japanese War, the A6M2a Zero Type 11 easily exterminated the Chinese fighters it encountered. The Imperial Japanese Navy was impressed, but fixed wing tips made the model unsuitable for carrier actions. After finishing only 65 Type 11s, production was changed to the carrier capable Type 21.
